A James Hilton screenplay for And Now Goodbye
Typed carbon, 126 pages, dated April 29, 1940, the first draft of the screenplay. Together with two typed letters signed ("James Hilton" and "Jimmy") and one typed letter signed secretarially, 3 pages total, October 24, 1939 to May 14, 1940, on various studio letterheads, to Lester Cowan of Universal Studios, regarding the synopsis and draft of the screenplay. The correspondence indicates that Hilton showed a copy of the script to Laurence Olivier with positive results, and that he arranged a meeting with Mrs. Hitchcock (Alfred being too busy) to give a copy of it to her. Although And Now Goodbye never made it to the screen, the famed author of Lost Horizon did win an ©Oscar® in 1942 for his work on Mrs. Miniver.
