A George III silver cheese-dish

by Paul Storr, 1804
Shallow oblong form with rounded corners, the high domed hinged cover with a wide band of straight fluting and having a detachable handle formed as looped acanthus leaves, with screw-off wood handle, cover and base engraved with crest, height 14.2cm, length 24 x 16.9cm, weight 39.5oz.

The crest and coronet of Charles CHETWYND-TALBOT, 2nd Earl Talbot of Hensol (1777-1849), succeeded his father as Earl in 1793, Lord Lieutenant of Staffordshire 1812-49, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland 1817- 21, Privy Councillor 1817, KP from 1821-44 when he resigned on installation as Knight of the Garter.
