Footnotes
This design for the present lot is taken from the 5th century BC Etruscan beaked oinochoe found both in terracotta and bronze. Bronze examples with the same acorn and anthemion decoration are known, for a further example in the British Museum, see cat 88 in Ellen Macnamara 'The Etruscans' (London 1990).
The crest of CLARKE of Mellis, Suffolk and also of CROFTS.
