Footnotes
The engraving shows the helm of a knight/baronet and the crest of augmentation awarded in 1806 to Rear Admiral Sir Alexander COCHRANE KB (1758-1832) for his distinguished naval action as second in command to Admiral Sir John Duckworth against the French at San Domingo.
These remained his insignia until his death in 1832 and (although somewhat later) his son would have inherited them as an Admiral of the Fleet and a Knight of the Bath.
