A George II gold and hardstone mounted snuff box
by Francis Harache, London 1741
Cartouche form, the cover with a central aventurine quartz panel with a rocaille chased border with flowers, scrolls and spume on a matted ground, the inverted bombé sides with similar rocaille decoration, length 7.5cm.

Provenance:
Acquired by Philip WARD, son of Sir Edward WARD (1638-1714), Chief Baron of the Exchequer, then gifted to his nephew Edward HUNT of Oundle & Wadenhoe (1706-1785). Thence by descent to Rt Hon George WARD HUNT (1825-1877), Chancellor of the Exchequer and First Lord of the Admiralty in 1850, and subsequently to his great, great grandson whence it was gifted to the current owner.
