A famille rose turquoise-ground baluster vase
Jiaqing seal mark and of the period
Vibrantly enamelled with four symmetrical arrangements of a pink bat suspending a tasselled musical stone surrounded by foliate scrolls issuing peaches, all above a pair of blue bats above a fully-blossoming lotus, each section divided by another fully-blooming lotus, and all amidst foliate scrolls and reserved on a turquoise ground, between ruyi-head lappets at the foot and ruyi-head panels containing floral scrolls beneath a leiwen scroll band at the rim. 22.8cm (9in) high

The Qing Court collection includes a related Jiaqing mark and period lime-green-ground baluster vase, also decorated with bats amid leafy tendrils, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Porcelains with Cloisonné Enamel Deocration and Famille Rose Decoration, Hong Kong, 1999, no.172.
