An enamelled baluster vase
Finely and delicately enamelled around the body and neck in shades of black and grey, reserving large areas of the original white porcelain as a wintry snow scene with a horse rider and a footservant on a bridge approaching a retreat, all among a mountainous landscape, inscribed and sealed at the reverse of the body and neck. 45.7cm (17½in) high

款識: 豪氣衝寒雪浪開, 騎驢蹴踏小橋來, 梅蒼嶺互馨香滿, 折得旋歸助酒醅。時在甲戌(1934)季秋月,鍾藩先生法鑒。陽谷許人何處畫於湓浦。
印文: 許人、何處、許人出品
He Xuren (1882-1940) is known to be a member of the 'Eight Friends of Zhushan'.
The inscription may be translated as:
The heoric spirit battles the cold, the waves of snow thaw;
Riding a donkey, we slowly trod towards a small bridge,
The plum blossom and blue mountains together fill the air with a strong and pervasive fragrance;
I turn around and return to help with the wine!
In autumn of the jiaxu year,
appreciated by the intellectual Zhong Fan,
painted by He Xuren at Penpu.
