Set with ten variously proportioned and positioned open compartments, all framed with openwork friezes and carved with archaistic scrolls, set at the centre with a single drawer, the sides and interior with traces of gilt lacquered floral and landscape scenes.

Compare two smaller zitan and lacquered display cabinets, from the Qing Court Collection, attributed to the Yongzheng-Qianlong Period and mid Qing Dynasty respectively, with similar carved openwork scrolls at the edges and decorated with gilt on lacquer with mountainous river landscape scenes and floral sprays, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties (II), Beijing, 2002, pls.216 and 229.
