In the detail of its carving and the theme of scholars in a landscape, the present cup is comparable to two libation cups carved with the Eight Immortals, illustrated by J.Chapman, The Art of Rhinoceros Horn Carving, London, 1999, nos.273 and 274. Compare also a libation cup dated to the 17th century with a scene from Scholarly Gathering at the West Garden, illustrated by T.Fok, Connoisseurship of Rhinoceros Horn Carving in China, Hong Kong, 1999, no. 146, and another dated to the late 17th century, ibid., no.147.
