A gilt-bronze figure of Tara
18th century
The figure cast seated cross-legged with the hands held in dhyana mudra, the wrists, arms, neck and ears embellished with intricately-beaded and petal-formed jewellery complementing the high lotus crown above the serene downcast face, the robe sweeping in long folds over the front of the high pedestal supported on four legs of swirling lotus-like forms, all framed by a separately-cast lobed flaming mandorla. Overall 20.5cm (8¼in) high

The interior of the pedestal is crudely incised with the characters san bai ba shi (three hundred and eighty) on one side and chang and yong on the other.
