A fine large gilt-bronze seated figure of a lama

16th/17th century
Seated in dhyanasana on a separate double-lotus base, his hands raised at his chest and each holding a long lotus spray, one enclosing a detachable bud spray, his robe elaborately incised on the front edge and all over the back with panels of simulated-textile floral design, the base open.

十六/十七世紀 銅鎏金喇嘛坐像

Compare a related copper inlaid figure of a lama with a hooded cap dated to the 16th century but smaller (20.3cm high) which was sold at Sotheby's New York, 24 March 2011, lot 67. Another related copper inlaid Tibetan figure, with no peaked hood and also smaller (19.3cm high) was sold at Christie's New York, 22 March 2011, lot 336.
