The understated elegance of the carving of the present lot emphasises the purity and lustre of the white jade. Such pieces are extremely rare, but compare a related pale green jade incense burner and cover, with similarly plain flaring handles and a 'bowstring' design of carving, but horizontal rather than the vertical carving on the present lot, illustrated in Compendium Of Collections in the Palace Museum: Jade 10 Qing Dynasty, Beijing and Hefei, 2011, no.101. See also a white jade tripod censer and cover from the Songzhutang Collection, with closely related treatment of the handles, with a rectangular section carved through each the handle, which is attached to the body of the censer by two hollowed drums, illustrated by T.Fok, The Splendour of Jade, Hong Kong, 2011, no.106.
