A fine white jade flaring vase, gu

18th century
The softly-polished even white stone delicately carved in the form of an archaic bronze gu vessel supported on a short hollow foot, the central mid-section with a narrow band of interlinked ruyi-heads, wood stand.
9.1cm (3½in) high (2).

Only the purest pieces of jade are used for such simple polished forms with no additional relief carving, as exhibited by the present lot. A related vessel of similarly delicate size and superb quality of white jade is illustrated in Compendium of Collections in the Palace Museum, Jade 10, Qing Dynasty, Beijing and Hefei, 2011, no.210.
