The form of this stem cup derives from porcelain: compare with a Yongle period stemcup illustrated in the Complete Collection of the Palace Museum: Blue and White Porcelain with Underglazed Red (I), Hong Kong, 2000, no.76. Compare also a similar Ming dynasty jade stem cup from the collection of Captain Dugald Malcolm included in the Oriental Ceramic Society exhibition Chinese Jade throughout the Ages, 1975, Catalogue, no.344. Another stem cup dated to the early Ming dynasty, from the Gerald Godfrey Collection, was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30 October 1995, lot 897.
