An Egyptian alabaster canopic jar with stopper
Third Intermediate Period, circa 1069-702 B.C.
The stopper in the form of a jackal head depicting Duamutef, the son of Horus responsible for the stomach (not belonging), the body with a rectangular panel of text composed of four columns of hieroglyphs, 'words spoken by Selket' "My arms embrace that which is inside, the protection of Qebehsenuef which is inside (for) the one revered before Qebehsenuef, the Osiris, the Chief Physician of Lord of the Two Lands, Amen-em-ipt, true of voice", 15¾in (40cm) high

Provenance:
Joseph Klein Collection, formed in New York between 1941 and 1980. Thence by descent.

Literature:
The position of Chief Physician to the Pharaoh was a very important one and this man would have held some influence. At this point, Amen-em-ipt is unknown to records.
