Six Roman mosaic glass fragments
Italy or Egypt, circa 1st Century B.C./A.D.
Including three fragments from the same plaque, composed of multiple canes of square cross-section, forming yellow rings outlining blue circles, surrounding a white diamond outlined in black, with smaller yellow cruciform motif with a central white cane, alternating with a similar motif of red circles with a pale blue-grey centre, on a pale blue-grey ground; a similar fragment of slightly more complex form; a rectangular plaque with intersecting circles forming white petals on a dark ground, the colour obscured by weathering; and two fragments possibly from the same plaque, one composed of a section of blue and white mosaic florals on a red ground, two bands of green and yellow and then blue, white and red mosaic florals on a dark purple ground, the other with blue white and red florals on a purple border, with a guilloche border in purple and white, 1in-2in (2.5cm-5.1cm) long (6)
