Nature morte à la citrouille is evidently an early example of Charles Filiger's work, since he only signed his surname with two 'l's (the correct spelling) at the beginning of his career. Like many of his contemporaries, Filiger experimented with a Pointillism in the late 1880s and exhibited two small watercolours in this manner at the Salon des Indépendants in 1889. Still lifes, however, are unusual in Filiger's oeuvre.
