A silver-mounted North Persian miquelet rifle
late 18th/early 19th century
late 18th/early 19th century
The 35 inch watered steel barrel with molded muzzle, integral rear sight and eight-groove rifling in .66 caliber. Simple lock of typical form. Circassian walnut stock with sectional fore-end, silver fore-end cap, two long silver capucines, each bearing small engraved mark in the form of a sword; silver wedge and screw escutcheons. Buttstock of slender form with marine ivory buttplate secured by a silver mount.
Condition: Good. Barrel with dark patina showing areas of watered pattern. Lock with dark age patina, the main spring cracked. Stock with scattered marks and missing one wedge escutcheon and half of one lock screw escutcheon.
