The 39 inch .577 caliber barrel with adjustable rear sight; breech with Birmingham view and proof. Lock marked 1863/Tower, with crown at tail and no WD ordnance marks. Brass furniture of standard pattern. Full stock with faint B.S.A. stamp ---/Small Arms Trade/-/S A and with personalized tacked decoration: right side of buttstock with a five-pointed star and a crucifix in small brass and iron-headed tacks and with a single large copper-headed tack beside; left side with a scrolling W in iron-headed tacks; behind the barrel tang an arrowhead-shaped brass plate having a red wax(?) filling. Together with associated socket bayonet bearing War Department markings.
Condition: Good. Metal with dark patina, areas of light pitting, some heavier pitting at breech and scattered small marks. Sound wood showing numerous marks.
