A fine cased pair of gold encrusted French percussion pistols by Devisme

Each with 10 inch octagonal barrel having thirteen groove rifling in .48 caliber, numbered 1141 and dated on the underside 1852. Barrels, tangs, locks, spur triggerguards and buttcap all decorated in gold with banding and a design of grape vine meander on a pebbled matte grey ground. Breeches numbered in gold, 1 and 2 respectively. Barrels and locks signed Devisme a Paris. Breeches with fire-blued rear sights. Ebony half-stocks, the fore-ends and fluted grips finely carved with leafy scrollwork, the wrists with vacant, shield-shaped escutcheons. Complete with original case with ebonized veneer, the brass banded lid inlaid with engraved brass scrollwork in the Boulle style. Green velour-lined interior, the lid impressed in gold 28 Boulevart Des Italiens/Devisme/Arquebusier Brevete. Accessories include bullet mold with gilt decoration en suite to pistols, gilt powder measure stamped Devisme/a Paris, gilt screwdriver/nipple wrench with mahogany handle, ebonized wood mallet, rosewood patch box containing extra nipples, rosewood cap box and rosewood cleaning and loading rods. Together with 20th century leather carrying case, the end flap embossed in gold Clifford H. West/Chief of Police/Auburn, Indiana.
Condition: Excellent and showing little or no use. Case lid with scattered light scratches; one end panel with small area of veneer missing, the other with hairline crack; bottom with cracks.
