A cased pair of Liegoise rifled percussion conversion pistols
first decade 19th century

Each 7 inch brown Damascus barrel with swamped muzzle and multi-groove rifling in .52 caliber. Muzzles and breeches engraved and gilt with florals and dots. Undersides of barrels signed B. Dombret. Engraved tangs fitted with single standing and double folding leaf rear sights. Conversion locks signed Buggenoms. Finely engraved iron furniture, the triggerguard finials with baskets of fruit, the rear sideplates with eagles, the buttcaps with seated hounds. Full walnut stocks in Empire style with checkered wrists, relief-carved beading at the barrel tangs and acanthus leaves on the rims of the octagonal butts. Bone-tipped ramrods. Together with green velour-lined walnut case, the fitted interior containing bullet mold marked Devisme/A Paris, rosewood cleaning and loading rods, rosewood mallet, rosewood cap and patch boxes and rosewood-handled combination nipple wrench/screwdriver. Original key included.
Condition: Fine. Barrels retain much thinning brown Damascus finish. Locks with smooth grey metal. Furniture with smooth, dark grey patina. One stock excellent, the other with hairline cracks on either side at the barrel wedge. Lid of case with light marks, the escutcheon missing, the aperture filled with wood. Lining showing some wear and fading. Accessories excellent.
