A U.S. Model 1842 Harpers Ferry percussion musket

The 32 inch .69 caliber smoothbore barrel with brass post fore-sight, the breech retaining faint proofs. Lockplate with standard markings and dated 1849. Standard iron furniture, the fore-end cap lacking. Walnut stock with faint inspector's cartouche behind the counterplate.
Condition: Very good as altered. Barrel and stock shortened during period of use. Metal with dark, mottled patina showing areas of light pitting with some heavier pitting at barrel breech. Stock showing wear, several deep bruises, traces of old painted finish at butt and repaired hairline crack at butt.
