A brass-tacked and rawhide-bound percussion carbine with attributed Native American use
The unmarked carbine, possibly Belgian, with a 22 1/2 inch round .60 caliber smoothbore barrel with under rib and unmarked back action lock. The fore-end and buttstock almost completely enclosed with rawhide wrappings set with numerous brass-headed tacks, the tip of the fore-end adorned with a metal cone fitted with black horsehair festoon. Together with letter of provenance stating The Indian tacked percussion Musket (sic) with the circle of life and covered with raw hide with hair hanging from the fore arm, was taken by my Great Grandfather Major David Anderson off an Indian near Beloit, Kansas in 1869 when he homesteaded there after the civil war that he had a life and death battle with. This Musket has been handed down through the generations of my family. Warren K. Parker.
