A Sharps New Model 1859 breechloading military rifle

Serial no. 42518, .52 caliber. 30 inch barrel with saber bayonet lug, Lawrence rear sight, block fore-sight with German silver blade and marked Sharps Rifle/Manufg. Co./Hartford, Conn./New Model 1859. Casehardened action and patchbox. Walnut stock and fore-end. No visible cartouches or inspection marks. Original black leather sling.
Condition: Fine. Barrel with smooth dark brown patina. Mint bore. Action retains considerable faded casehardening. Patchbox with 98% darkened casehardening. Excellent wood showing very few light marks. Sling with considerable surface flaking but very sound.

Note: The barrel does not appear to have ever been blued but shows, along with the buttplate, what appears to be traces of the original arsenal coating of beeswax and linseed oil.
