A U.S. Model 1847 Artillery musketoon

The 26 inch .69 caliber barrel with bayonet stud under the muzzle, the breech marked with V/P over eaglehead and dated 1855 on the tang. Converted from the Sapper & Miner model, the front barrel band marked L5 and notched to fit the support stud on top of the barrel. Lockplate marked with eagle over US and Spring/Field/1855. Iron furniture of standard pattern with sling swivels mounted on rear barrel band and on to of buttstock. Walnut stock showing sharp JS cartouche.
Condition: Very good to fine. Bright metal has been cleaned and shows areas of very light pitting and sharp markings. Sound wood with numerous small marks and a few bruises.
