A U.S. Model 1847 percussion cavalry musketoon

The 26 inch .69 caliber barrel with single standing/double folding leaf rear sight, marked at breech V/P over eaglehead, dated 1853 on the tang and retaining the rare original chained ramrod. Lockplate with standard markings and dated 1848. Brass furniture, the counterplate and rear barrel band equipped with sling bar and ring. Walnut stock with JS inspector's cartouches.
Condition: Very good to fine. Bright metal showing minor marks and sharp markings. Generally clean wood showing some light marks, narrow splintered gouges to either side of fore-end and split on either side of butt due to a lead plug installed in 1859 by the armor in an effort to improve balance.
