A U.S. Model 1817 flintlock common rifle by Henry Deringer
dated 1829

The 35 3/4 inch .54 caliber barrel marked at the breech US/LS/P, (Luther Sage) and dated on the tang 1829. Lock marked US/H. Deringer/Philada in three lines and also dated 1829. Iron furniture, the patchbox retaining the tool set: combination tool, wiper and ball screw. Full walnut stock with oval LS cartouche behind counterplate. Brass-tipped ramrod.
Condition: Very good. Metal with dark age patina showing some areas of light pitting. Barrel markings with light wear, lock markings and stock cartouche sharp. Sharp rifling. Lock in original flintlock configuration. Stock is quite clean, with intact edges, two hairline cracks between counterplate and breech and showing scattered light marks with one deep scratch to left side of buttstock.
