A Revolutionary War ear French Model 1766/68 flintlock musket with American surcharge of David Ames, South Bridgewater, Massachusetts

The 44 1/2 inch .69 caliber barrel, lock and iron furniture of standard pattern but with no remaining French markings. The buttplate marked with an A surmounted by a star, this mark attributed to David Ames of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, a gunmaker during the Revolutionary War who later became first superintendent of the Springfield Armory. Full walnut stock, right side of buttstock neatly incised C.A.J.
Condition: Good to very good. Metal with dark brown patina showing scattered areas of pitting. Lock reconverted. Sound wood showing numerous marks and with slivered losses along the fore-end.
