An American full-stocked percussion rifle by Filson J. Hampton

The 37 1/2 inch octagonal barrel with seven groove rifling in .44 caliber, brass fore-sight and open rear sight, the breech marked F.J.H. Lock marked Leman/Lancaster. Double set triggers. Brass furniture including fore-end cap, three ramrod thimbles, fore-end plate engraved with florals, scrolling spur triggerguard, buttplate, heart-shaped wrist escutcheon and patchbox, the latter with pointed finials, rocker-engraved borders and engraved panel of a leafy plant. Full maple stock with striped finish, either side of wrist set with small German silver panels, the cheekpiece with a large diamond-shaped German silver panel. Together with a Batty 'Indian Hunter' powder flask. (Riling, #528.
Condition: Very good. Barrel with dark brown patina. Brass with dark patina. Generally clean and sound stock showing scattered small marks, some hairline cracks in front and behind counterscrew and with brass plates to the right side of the barrel tang and in front of upper section of lock, possibly period repairs. Flask in poor condition showing numerous dents and missing the spout.
