An American full-stocked flintlock rifle
circa 1820-30

The 39 inch octagonal barrel with six groove rifling in .44 caliber, brass blade fore-sight, open rear sight and signed on the top flat J * M. Warranted lock. Brass furniture, the patchbox with finial in the form of a stylized bird's head. Full maple stock with striped finish, the wrist set with heart-shaped German silver escutcheon, the cheekpiece with a crescent moon-shaped silver inlay.
Condition: Very good. Barrel with dark brown patina showing scattered minor pitting. Lock with dark patina lightly pitted overall. Stock showing minor marks, some small filled areas at the barrel pins and with two neatly restored pieces; one at the left side of the barrel tang, the other below the front of the lock.
