A group of three American handguns attributed to outlaw Creed Chapman, member of the James Gang

Comprising: 1) Savage & North percussion navy revolver in .36 caliber, standard civilian model. 2) Allen & Thurber percussion pepperbox revolver, sn. 102, .31 caliber, fluted 3 1/2 inch barrel cluster with nipple cover, engraved frame, walnut grips with oval silver escutcheons. 3) Belgian double barrel percussion pistol, .41 caliber, 4 inch barrels, Liege proof, checkered walnut grip with oval German silver escutcheon. Together with letter of provenance from consignor, Mr. Chapman's great-grandson, attesting to ownership.
Condition: 1) Poor to fair, dark patina, areas of light pitting, tip of rammer broken, action locked up, grips with scattered marks and losses. 2) Good, grey metal showing scattered light pitting, grips with minor marks. 3) Fair to good, light pitting, action not functioning, grips showing wear and light marks.

Note: Creed Chapman, 1822-1895, was arrested for participating in a train robbery committed by the James Gang on Sept. 7, 1881. Although identified as having assisted in the robbery by several convicted James Gang members, Chapman was released.
