A cased London Colt Model 1849 percussion pocket revolver
Serial no. 488 for 1853, .31 caliber. 4 inch barrel marked Address Col. Colt/London. Five-shot cylinder with stagecoach holdup scene. Varnished walnut grips, the butt carved with nine notches. Complete with blue velour-lined case, the lid with later brass escutcheon. Accessories include James Dixon & Sons bag-shaped flask, two-cavity steel mold with Colt's Patent-marked sprue cutter, L-shaped combination tool and three opened Eley Brothers cap tins.
Condition: Very good. Barrel and cylinder with grey metal showing sharp markings and cylinder scene and some scattered light pitting. Frame with dark patina, some spotting/minor pitting and wear to markings. Triggerguard/gripstrap retain perhaps 20% silver-plated finish. Grips with few minor marks and notches noted above. Case lid with three cracks, the escutcheon not original to case. Lining showing staining and small tears. Accessories fair, the flask with broken spring.
