A rare U.S. Model 1840 general officer's sword by Lyon of Paris

Straight 31 inch single edged blade with full-length fuller and 19 inch panel etched with scrollwork, panoplies of arms, US and Federal eagle. Spine marked Manuf Klingenthal Coulaux. Brass hilt with folding inner shell, the outer applied with spread eagle in the French type; knucklebow and ovoid pommel molded with foliage; grip wrapped in plaited brass wire and silver tape. Brass three-ring scabbard engraved with panels of scrollwork and with applied panel between the suspension mounts molded with spread eagle on Federal shield.
Condition: Fine blade showing some very minor spotting. Hilt and scabbard with unpolished patina.
