A lot of two militia swords
circa 1850-70

Comprising: 1) A rare militia officer's/nco's sword, the straight 27 inch blade of oval section with 12 inch panel etched with florals and panoplies above a band marked F.W. Horstmann/Philadelphia; ricasso with crowned head mark of Weyersberg of Solingen. Brass crossguard with faceted quillon block and spatulate quillons. Urn-shaped pommel. White shagreen and brass wire-wrapped grip. Brass-mounted black leather scabbard. See Peterson, Fig. 107 for a rare artillery sword with this pommel. 2) NCO sword, straight 25 inch blade of oval section, brass guard with flared quillons and languets in the form of laurel leaves, reeded bone grip, helmet pommel.
Condition: 1) Blade with mottled grey patina showing sharp decoration; hilt and scabbard excellent. 2) Blade showing light spotting, hilt with dark patina, grip with minor chipping below pommel.
