A militia infantry officer's or nco's saber by Nathan P. Ames, Springfield, Massachusetts
probably circa 1830-40

Curved 28 inch blade with broad, shallow fuller and 14 1/2 inch panel etched and engraved with foliage, one side with Federal eagle. Brass stirrup hilt of simple form with small, flat-sided pistolgrip pommel. Bone grip carved with diagonal ribbed panels. Black leather scabbard with brass mounts.
Condition: Blade with grey metal showing some small patches of light spotting. Hilt with dark patina. Grip fine. Leather with surface flaking but sound, the mounts with dark patina and some light dents.
