A U.S. Model 1850 Staff & Field officer's sword

Slightly curved 31 inch blade with 17 inch panel etched and engraved with foliage and panoplies; one side with US, the other with E Pluribus Unum riband. Ricasso with rabbit head and initial of maker Friedrick Poetter. Brass hilt of standard pattern. Hilt wrapped in grey shagreen and copper wire. Black leather scabbard retaining only the uppermost brass mount.
Condition: Blade with dull grey patina showing light spotting partially obscuring decoration. Hilt with dark patina. Grip fine. Scabbard with scuffing and flaking and missing the middle mount and drag.
