A colonial American halberd
Mid-18th century, probably Norwich, Connecticut

The head comprising 5 inch top spike. The crescent-shaped blade with keyhole and diamond-shaped piercings and scrolling projections which are mirrored on the 5 inch down-curving fluke. Conical socket above 14 3/4 inch side straps. Mounted on an old 72 inch pine shaft, the lower end fitted with a 7 inch conical pointed iron foot.
Condition: Cleaned metal with silvery/grey patina showing dark patches of old pitting. Haft showing numerous mars and small areas of insect damage.
