An American eagle pommel officer's saber
circa 1805-10

The British import saber with curved 28 inch blade showing very slight traces of engraved decoration. Brass stirrup hilt of simple form with Ketland-style eagle. Reeded bone grip. black leather scabbard missing the drag and perhaps two inches of leather, the upper mounts with suspension rings and frog stud.
Condition: Blade cleaned at one time and shows dark grey metal with scattered minor pitting. Hilt with dark patina. Grip with some chipping below pommel. Scabbard leather, note losses above, showing considerable surface crazing/flaking and open seam.
