An American eagle pommel infantry officer's saber
circa 1810-20, French for the American market

Curved 29 1/2 inch blade with 13 inch section engraved with small panels of conventional florals and panoplies, the ricasso signed S & K. Silvered brass hilt comprising guard with faceted ovoid finial, knucklebow with center panel molded with foliage and with eaglehead pommel of French form. One-piece bone grip with reeded sides, the center sections relief-carved with small fluted panels. Brass two-ring scabbard.
Condition: Blade showing spotting/light pitting and with considerable wear to blued and gilt decoration. Hilt retaining red cloth spacer and traces of silver finish. Fine grip with two hairline cracks. Scabbard with dark, mottled patina, some light dents and missing the throat.
