An inscribed U.S. Model 1850 Staff & Field officer's sword
Slightly curved 31 inch blade with 21 inch panel etched and engraved with floral scrolls and on one side with US and stand of flags featuring Federal shield. Ricasso with rabbit head and initials of maker Friedrick Poetter of Solingen. Brass hilt of standard pattern. Grey shagreen and brass wire-wrapped grip. Brass-mounted black leather scabbard, the throat with worn non-professional inscription E.J. Russell/Co. C 39th. Reverse of drag also lightly incised with the same name.
Condition: Blade with grey metal showing some spotting/minor pitting towards the point and generally clear decoration. Brass with dark patina. Grip with small area of loss to shagreen at pommel. Very sound scabbard showing surface crackling. Drag with some light dents.
