A U.S. Model 1850 foot officer's sword by Ames Mfg. Co.

Slightly curved 30 1/2" blade etched with florals, US, Federal eagle with E Pluribus Unum riband and panoply of arms featuring Federal shield. Ricasso etched Ames Mfg. Co./Chicopee/Mass. Gilt brass hilt of standard pattern. Shagreen-covered grip wrapped with brass wire. Blued iron scabbard with gilt brass mounts, the throat with maker's stamp.
Condition: Blade excellent and showing much original polish. Hilt retains 50-60% gilt finish. Grip excellent. Scabbard mounts with generous traces of gilt finish, the body showing patches of spotting and retaining much blued finish on the upper sections.
