A 17th century naval cutlass
possibly American
possibly American
Broad, slightly curved 24 inch single edged blade with deep 17 inch fuller below the spine. Iron hilt comprising a large shell with incised banding, downcurving quillon with button finial, knucklebow with center swell and extending to integral flat pommel cap. One-piece bone grip.
Condition: Blade with mottled patina showing areas of light pitting. Hilt with dark patina. Grip showing wear.
