An American eagle pommel infantry officer's sword
circa 1825-40

Narrow, straight 31 1/2 inch blade with 11 inch blued and gilt panel engraved with conventional florals and panoplies of arms. Silver-plated brass hilt: outer languet molded with helmet and sword a la antique; quillon with eaglehead finial; knucklebow molded with acanthus in relief around central beaded disc; ferrule molded with palmettes; backstrap with integral eaglehead pommel. Ribbed bone grip. plain silver-plated brass scabbard fitted with sling rings and palmette frog stud.
Condition: Blade showing patches of spotting/light pitting and some wear and fading to the blued and gilt decoration. Hilt with 40-50% unpolished silver plating. Scabbard showing scattered dents and retains 20-30% silver.
