A silver and ivory-mounted British naval officer's dirk
fourth quarter 18th century

Slender, straight 11 3/4 inch blade with full-length fuller. Silver hilt comprising oval scabbard cover; long, straight quillons of squared section; long ferrule of hexagonal section and conforming pommel. Elephant ivory grip. One quillon with faint hallmarks, evidently for London with letter date for 1785 and FT maker's mark, possibly for Francis Theremin.
Condition: Blade with patches of minor pitting. Hilt with unpolished patina, one quillon slightly bent.
