A French small sword
circa 1750

The 30 inch, unmarked colichemarde blade of hollow triangular section. Steel hilt comprising bilobate guard pierced and chased with scrollwork and blossoms; quillon block, quillon and knucklebow chased in low relief with scrolls; elongated ovoid pommel pierced with panels of circular holes below an acorn-shaped capstan. Plaited silver wire turk's heads. Grip wrapped in plain and plaited silver wire.
Condition: Blade showing scattered spotting/minor pitting. Hilt with dark patina. Grip probably rewrapped.
