A French epee de ville
early 18th century
early 18th century
Straight 29 1/2 inch blade of oval section with shallow 5 1/2 inch fullers. Iron hilt comprising guard with downcurving quillon; outer ring joined to the knucklebow with a second branch, the ring and knucklebow with central faceted panels; faceted olive-shaped pommel; faceted ferrules. Grip wrapped in green leather bound with copper tape.
Condition: Blade with smooth, mottled patina. Hilt with dark patina. Grip probably rewrapped.
