A Black And White Three-Quarter Armor
second half of the 16th century

Comprising burgonet with two-piece skull extended to form a peak struck with a mark of three staghorns within a shield, low comb , hinged cheek-pieces, neck-defence with cut-out slot and two drilled holes(later?), 'almain' collar comprising main plate and two neck-plates front and rear, the pointed front plate struck with the same mark as the helmet, hinged on the left and with pin-catch on the right, and with spaulders each of six overlapping lames, leather lined fingered gauntlets with two-piece cuffs, peascod breast-plate and associated back-plate the latter struck with a single staghorn mark at the skirt lame, the former with prominent central point, moveable armhole gussets and skirt of three lames, the lower lame arched over the crotch, the back-plate with shaped single-plate culet, and knee-length tassets each of seven upward-lapping lames, the main edges turned and roped, and the surfaces throughout with raised bands and borders, the backplate with two raised fleur-de-lis, all bright against a blackened ground, some of the interior parts painted G R 3 : on a wooden stand
Condition: Very good. With various expert repairs. Some areas re-blacked.
