A North Italian etched cabasset or Spanish morion
fourth quarter 16th century

One-piece almond-shaped skull with rudimentary stem at the apex, slightly downturned brim with rolled rim, brass blossom-form lining rivet washers, later brass plume-holder and decorated in the so-called Pisan style with gilded bands etched with C-scrolls, dolphins and other elements within plain and roped borders.
Condition: Showing areas of light pitting, areas of wear to decoration, repair at apex and old re-gilded finish, some rivet washers damaged or replaced.
