Movement No. 28974, inscribed "Cadran Breveté", case stamped with reference no. 1714, each door stamped 112, the case with French lozenge maker's mark, VR&Cie. with roman numeral XII, circa 1928
Jeweled lever movement, the gold case with reeded panels enhanced with enamel to the sides and doors, the front pair with diamond set latch opening to reveal blue enamel roman chapters enclosing a square guilloché silvered dial with minute ring, bold blued arrow hands, all raised on a cushion form nephrite base, accompanied by original dark red leather fitted Cartier case. 58mm high

Most probably purchased at Cartier, New York whose 1929 catalog illustrates similar examples. The proprietary design of the folding dial was patented by J. Vergely in Paris in 1925. The form is referred to as a "pendulette autel" or altar clock.
