Footnotes
The top plate of the movement is signed by Charles August Paillard (1840 – 1895) who was born in La Chaux de Fonds, but spent part of his youth on the Caribbean island of Ste. Croix and then in Brazil. Returning to Geneva in 1862, he experimented with palladium to make non magnetic balance springs for which he received several patents. By 1882, Swiss chronometer makers had generally adopted his palladium alloy for their hairsprings.
